The Bayeux tapestry, depicting the Battle of Hastings or The Norman Conquest 1066, is shrouded in mystery. It isn’t actually a tapestry it’s an embroidery. No one knows for certain where it was stitched, although probably in Canterbury, England, who stitched it, maybe nuns, or who it was for – The Notre Dame in Bayeux, Normandy? The tapestry is on show in England for the first time since it was stitched, at a blockbuster exhibition at The British Museum from September 2026. It is one of the world’s great masterpieces telling the story of the triumph of William The Conqueror and the tragedy of Harold King of England.
